Students and Volunteers Come Together to Beautify Port Angeles

Our community now has a beautifully decorated chain link fence on East Front St. across from Kokopelli Grill thanks to the talents of Revitalize Port Angeles, Leslie Robertson, local artists Gianna Andrews and Chuck Rondeau, and 12 child artists from Franklin Elementary School MAC community service enrichment clusters. MAC stands for Multi-Age Clusters, where groups of students from all ages get together to perform community service projects.

The children first took a field trip to the fence to check out the location and visualize their future display. They then spent four days in the classroom painting different shapes cut from plywood donated by Angeles Millwork & Lumber Co. Inc.  The shapes where made up of rectangles, eagles, bears and starfish. Local artists Gianna Andrews and Chuck Rondeau volunteered their time in  the Franklin Elementary classroom to help them paint the shapes and achieve their final artistic vision.

On the final day of the project, the children took another field trip to the fence for the installation of their art. Several community volunteers also met them there to assist. The kids were excited to see their pieces prominently displayed where so many community members will be able to view them.

We would like to thank Revitalize Port Angeles’ Leslie Robertson for allowing us to be a part of such a great improvement project in our community. The children of Franklin Elementary School did an absolutely amazing job in the creation of the pieces that will welcome visitors and residents alike as they make their way into town.
