Now Hiring: Contractor Sales Representative

Contractor Sales Representative

Location: Hartnagel Building Supply

Job Type: Full Time, 40hrs/week

Pay Range: $57,000 – $108,000, depending on experience

At Hartnagel Building Supply, contractor sales is about more than taking orders. It is about helping builders, remodelers, and tradespeople keep projects moving with the right materials, accurate information, and dependable follow-through.

We are looking for a Contractor Sales Representative who enjoys the details of construction, takes pride in accuracy, and knows how to build long-term trust with professional customers.

The right person will be curious about how buildings go together, comfortable reading plans and working with numbers, organized under pressure, and able to communicate clearly with contractors, vendors, and teammates.

What You’ll Do

As a Contractor Sales Representative, you will become a trusted project partner for our professional customers. You will prepare quotes and material takeoffs, help source products, coordinate special orders, follow up on deliveries, and solve problems when project details change.

You will work closely with customers, warehouse, dispatch, receiving, retail sales, vendors, and management to help make sure orders are accurate, timelines are clear, and customers have what they need to keep working.

This role includes:

  • Providing excellent service to contractors, builders, remodelers, and homeowners
  • Preparing accurate quotes, takeoffs, and material lists from plans, drawings, and customer information
  • Helping customers identify related products and practical solutions for their projects
  • Developing new customer accounts and strengthening existing relationships
  • Locating, ordering, and following up on special order items
  • Communicating clearly about pricing, product availability, delivery options, and order status
  • Maintaining organized customer files, quotes, orders, returns, and follow-up notes
  • Coordinating with internal teams to support timely and accurate service
  • Helping prevent avoidable mistakes through careful review and clear communication

You May Be a Great Fit If You Are

  • Curious about construction and how materials are actually used
  • Detail-oriented and proud of getting things right
  • Comfortable reading plans, calculating quantities, and checking your own work
  • Good with contractors, including customers who want quick answers, direct communication, or thoughtful guidance
  • Organized enough to manage quotes, orders, special orders, follow-ups, and changing priorities
  • Calm under pressure when problems need to be solved
  • Comfortable balancing great customer service with smart business judgment
  • Humble enough to keep learning, but confident enough to make recommendations

The ideal candidate does not need to be the flashiest salesperson in the room. The ideal candidate is the person a contractor trusts when the quote is complicated, the job is moving fast, and the details matter.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone with experience in building materials, construction, contractor sales, estimating, or a related field.

A strong candidate will have:

  • Practical knowledge of lumber, building materials, construction, or home improvement products
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, drawings, specifications, and technical information
  • Comfort with math, including measurements, percentages, area, volume, and quantities
  • Strong communication skills in person, by phone, and by email
  • Good organization, follow-through, and time management
  • Computer proficiency and willingness to use company software, quoting tools, spreadsheets, vendor systems, and CRM tools
  • A customer-first mindset and a strong sense of personal accountability

Three years of related experience in a construction or building-materials setting is preferred.
